Australians Play Minor Counties. lIARBORD NOT OUT 104. United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received September 6, 11.30 am.) LONDON, September 5. The Minor Counties, including at least five players with first-class experience. provided Australia with fair opposition when the match opened to-day at Kennington Oval. Play was uneventful until the score reached 48. Grimmett then dismissed Butler and De Sarm with successive balls. Three wickets fell soon after lunch, and then Relf joined Ilarbord in an excellent stand, which realised 54. The others failed to stay with Harbord, who carried his bat through the innings. lie reached his century in 205 minutes, lie hit fourteen tours, and was often attractive. Brown and Ponsford opened at 4.35 for Australia and scored steadily. Ponsford was out at 43, after which Brown and Darling sent the score along merrily, 100 taking 75 minutes. Darling’s 50 occupied 70 minutes. Scores: MINOR COUNTIES.
