Mrs G. Frengley, Weston Road, with her daughter, Miss Maureen Frengley, has gone to visit her son at Balclutha.
Miss T. Hunter, St Margaret’s College, will leave for Dunedin this week to attend the IJome Science Teachers’ Conference.
Miss Ailsa Greenwood, Little River, is spending the school vacation with her mother, Mrs Greenwood, Barbadoes Street.
Mr and Mrs Ernest Edridge, who have been the guests of Mrs Edridge, Merivale. are now staying at The Lodge, Hereford Street. Mrs Prestage, Christchurch, who has been staying with her daughter, Mrs J. Topp, Puaha, Little River, has returned home.
Sister A. Manson, of the nursing staff of the Christchurch Hospital was granted twelve months’ leave of absence by the Hospital Board yesterday. It is her intention to travel abroad.
The resignation through ill-health of Sister E. Butterworth, of the nursing staff, of the Christchurch Hospital was received with regret at a meeting of the Hospital Board yesterday. Miss Rennie, of the Wellington Technical College, is spending a few days in Christchurch before going on to Dunedin for the home science teachers’ conference.
Writing from London on July 13, a correspondent tells of an honour gained by a woman doctor, Miss Helen M’Kay, who is the first woman to secure a Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians. She is a former student of the London School of Medicine for Women. Sister E. Winfield, of the X-ray Department of the Christchurch Hospital, was given leave of absence by the Hospital Board yesterday to enable her to go abroad for educational purposes. She has been given nine months’ leave on pay and will rejoin the staff of the hospital on her return to New Zealand.
Miss Monie Macauley, Highfield, has returned from a visit to Mrs Clive Crozier, St Andrew’s Square. Mr and Mrs P. A. Elworthy, Gordon’s Valley, who are visiting England, will return to New Zealand by the Remuera. Miss Nancy Frater, Rugby Street, will leave next week to spend a holiday at Mount Cook. Mr and Mrs L. G. K. Steven, Rossall Street, left this morning to spend a holiday at Hanmer Springs. Mr and Mrs J. W. Fair, Douglas Street, have returned from a visit to Christchurch. Mr and Mrs Eric Fraser and Mr and Mrs F. Hart, Waimate, who were visiting Christchurch, have returned south. Miss Margot Renton, Christchurch, left this morning to spend a holiday in Dunedin and at Win ton, Southland. The. Misses Zena and Ethelwyn Bates, Papanui Road, will leave next week to spend a holiday at Mount Cook.
Miss Florence Webb, Martinborough, who is the guest of Mrs A. C. Cottrell, Merivale Lane, will return to Wellington next Monday evening.
The annual dance arranged by the North Linwood School Committee will be held on Thursday, September 6, in the Canberra Hall. The Women’s Auxiliary of the Navy League has issued invitations for “ An Old-fashioned Party,” to be held on Monday* evening, August 27. Miss Jean Wilson, Hastings, who was Mrs Herbert Acton-Adams’s guest at Fendalton during race week, will leave to-morrow to visit her aunt, Mrs R. L. Jameson, “ Nukiwai,” North Canterbury.
1 Miss A. Dennis is returning to New Zealand by the Rangitata, which is due at Wellington on Wednesday next. She will come straight to Christchurch to stay’ with her sister, Lady Clifford, Cashmere Hills. Mrs J. M. Ilott left Auckland by the Aorangi on Tuesday, en route to San Francisco. She will meet her husband, Mr J. M. Ilott, of Wellington, governor of Rotary in New Zealand, who is making a good recovery after having been seriously ill in the United States.
Mrs Herbert Acton-Adams, “ Tipapa,” North Canterbury, will return home on Saturday, after spending a fortnight in Christchurch. Iler niece, Miss Margaret Johnstone, “ The Hossack,” Hanmer Springs, who has been her guest, will leave to-morrow to stay with Miss Jean M’Crae, Amuri.
