SUCCESSFUL CARNIVAL
Over £IOOO Raised for Parish Funds.
Tile Grand National Carnival which has been running: for the past week at the Spencer Street Hall and for which many socials and functions have been organised during the past few months was brought to a close on Saturday night. A popular boy contest was run in connection with the five stalls and competition was very keen. The following were the stalls and stall-holders: Sports, Misses Cunneen, Consedine and Price; variety, Mesdames O’Connell, Wilson and (Jilligan; refreshments, Mesdames M’Keown, O’Leary and Cod j're; cooked food, Misses R. M’Cloy, N. Sloan and Mrs C. Smith; produce, Mesdames Walsh and M’Donagh. The executive committee controlling the carnival was made up of representatives of each stall, together with Messrs Aitken, T. Buckley, Hurley, E. Fitzgerald (chairman), Miss B. M. Sloan (secretary) and the Rev Father O’Connor as treasurer. On SaturdayrniglU the hall was packed to its utmost capacity, the special attraction being the presentation of the gold-mounted whip to Mr E. C. M’Dermott, the driver of Indianapolis, winner of the National Cup on Friday last. The Hon W. Hayward, in making the presentation, congratulated Mr Al'Dermott on his well-merited win. Business was very brisk and altogether it was a fitting wind-up to a successful carnival. The total amount realised reached £lO3l. The popular boy contest was won by Master Leo Brownlee.
