COMMENT ON MATCH.
All Blacks Criticised for Carelessness. (Received August 23, 12.50 p.m.) SYDNEY, August 23. Commenting on the Newcastle match, the “ Sydney Morning Herald ” says: “ Though the All Blacks had no need to extend themselves to defeat the Newcastle 'District side, the match produced a few things genuinely worth watching—the first-class goalkicking and all-round play of the fullback, Collins, the great bursts of speed shown by Bullock Douglas, the dexterous service from the scrum base bv Kilby, and the superb control of the ball at the toe by the whole of > the New Zealand forwards.” The “Daily Telegraph” says: “The New Zealanders, as sound judges of their own defects, will not be carried away by a 35-3 victory. The opposition was really poor. The All Blacks supremacy was never seriously challenged, yet, in the second half their display fell away in comparison with the first session highlights. Perhaps the early evidence of an almost assured victory by an easy margin lulled them not only into a sense of security, but also into carelessness, a fault that should not mar the record of any international team. Whether from carelessness or not, the fact remains that in the second spell the tourists lapsed badly. Admittedly there was never any great need to score points, as far as* the winning of the game was concerned, but that does not provide a reason for good passes being dropped or others being badly givert.*‘ w (A report of yesterday’s match at Newcastle appears on Page 7).
