Results of First Day’s Play in N.Z. Tourney. DUFJEDIN, August 22. The New Zealand Basket-ball Association’s eighth annual tournament was opened to-day by the Governor-General, who was accompanied by Lady Bledisloe. Nineteen teams are competing, of which six form the major division. Only one major game was played, that being between Auckland (the present champions) and Otago, which was won by Auckland by 20 goals to 11. Results of minor division games were: South Canterbury 20, Southland Minor 9. North Otago 21, Manawatu 16. Waikato 20, Buller 7. South Canterbury 15, Bush 5. Wellington Minor 25. West Coast 14. Poverty Bay 18, Marlborough 12. Ashburton 21, Wairarapa 17. Southland Minor 22, Buller 6. Waikato 13, North Otago 9. Marlborough 27. West Coast 4. Poverty B IS. Wairarapa 5. Bush 13, Manawatu 12. It was decided by the Dominion Council to-night to hold the 1935 tournament at Wellington, Wanganui’s application being declined. Saturday’s Matches.
