Reports and Returns on Operations. MOUNT LYELL PROGRESS. The Mount Lyell Mining; Company's progress report for the fortnight ended August S is as follows: North Mount Lyell Mine—Ore breaking in progress; tons extracted 6S4d. 7t'of t level. No. 17 rise lifted to IG It through schist and good grade borpitie ore and completed. 925 ft level, lootwall drive to 65] ft. through pyritised schist and completed. No. 2 gallery crosscut to 37ft through low grade quartzitic ore, and completed No. 57 gallery crosscut to 29ft through low grade quartzitic ore; No. 7 rise lifted to 39ft through quartzitic ore. Crown Lyell Mine—Ore-breaking in progress: tons extracted 4972. Lyell Tharsis Mine—Ore-breaking in progress: tons extracted 179. No. 1 level, south drive to 1258 ft, through ore and grey schist.
Royal Tharsis Mine—Ore-breaking in progress, tons extracted 1995. At the surface, opencut rise lifted to 75ft through soft ore. No. 1 level, footwall drive to 118 ft through pyritised grey schist. No. 7 level, magazine drive to 99ft, through grey schist. West Lyell Mine—Ore broken from development work: 594 tons. No. l level. West Lyell drive to 988 ft, through low-grade ore; west crosscut to 95ft through ore. . Lyell Comstock Mine—Cre-hrFaking in progress: tons extracted 3926. 630 Ct level, shaft crosscut to 4 9ft through mineralised schist. Reduction Works—Furnace in blast for 7 2-3 days during period; 5251 tons of refinery anodes made for current year. •Concentrator—Mill operated 336 hours and treated 19,355 tons of ore, producing 1863 tons of concentrates. Copper Refinery—Tank house in operation throughout fortnight; 496 tons cathode copper being produced for period. Total for current year, 5661 tons. Upper Shotover Company. The directors of the Upper Shotover Gold Mining and Hydro-electric Co.. Ltd., state that (weather permitting) work will be resumed at the company’s claim about September 1. Gold Returns. 'Special to the " Star.”) HOKITIKA, August 22. It was reported at a meeting of the Westland Mining Executive last evening that the total subsidy paid in connection with the gold scheme in the Westland district was £7903. The quantity of gold won by the subsidised men was sSooz, valued at £4060. Tin Dredging. In tlie first half of August the Rawang tin dredge put through 125,000 cubic yards for a return of 60 tens of tin oxide. The lyuala Kampar dredge handled 100,000 cubic yards for 15 tons of tin oxide. Mount I»a Operations. The Mount Isa Mines, Ltd., report on operations for the week ended August 11 as follows (figures in parentheses being for the previous week):—Ore milled, 10,469 tons (11,469); silver-lead bullion produced. 763 tons (Sll): bullion railed to Townsville, 751 tons (853). Bismarck Range. Bismarck Range, Lucknow (New South Wales), August 9—Continued stoping from 80ft level; size, value, lode, holding. 100 ft level—Driving on lode full width drive; no footwall showing. 125ft—-Put in plat, began driving; estimate cutting joint in 10ft to 12ft. Golden Link—Continued driving on lode. Battery working full time. Amalgam on band 6920 z. Cyanide plant cleaned up: 60 tons sands for 660 z gold. Black Jack Co. Black Jack Gold, N.L. (August 11) Crushed 313 tons for smelted gold of value of £BS. 3.9 tons concentrates of average assay value of £37 per ton. 3.85 tons slimes of average assay value of £6 per ton (all standard values). Whole crushing composed of development ore unavoidably dirty; only about 30 tons clean mineral stone. Prospectors at Thames. A total of 320 z lfidwt of bullion, valued at £BB 14s 6d (without bonus), was won by prospectors 'employed on the Thames and Coromandel goldfields under the Unemployment Board’s subsidised scheme during July. Four parties In the Thames borough won 220 z 15dwt, valued et £62 6s 6d; one party in the Thames county had a crushing yielding 6oz sdwt, valued at £l6 6s lid; and three in the Coromandel county returned 3oz 16dwt, valued at £lO is Id. Maori Gully. The contractor for the erection of the Maoyi Gully- dredge, near Stillwater, reports that the pontoons are now being built. The first part of the machinery has arrived from England by the Akaroa, and the Tekoa, due to arrive in Lyttelton to-morrow, is conveying a number of the buckets, the gearing, pumps, motors, plates, belts, etc. The remainder of the buckets and the top and bottom tumblers and cables are on the Fordsdale, due by the middle of September, this shipment completing the imported material. The ladder is being manufactured locally. All the machinery will be on the ground Well up to time.
