MAKING GOODS.
Report to Chamber of Commerce. The executive of the Associated Chambers of Commerce has been considering the promotion of legislation to ensure that imported goods should bear the name of the country of origin. To further the investigation a subcommittee was set up. It has reported that it would be unwise to ask that British manufactures be made subject to compulsory* marking, but suggests that cases should be examined on their merits. Dealing with foreign goods, the report states that they should be marked with the country of origin where practicable. In the event of the executive deciding to promote legislation on the subject, the sub-committee is of the opinion that the legislation should be on the lines of the British Act. ‘ .
