POLICE COURT.

Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M., presided at a sitting of the Police Court this morning. Anthony Shannon, a labourer, aged fifty-five y*ears, was fined 20s and costs, in default forty-eight hours’ imprisonment, for drunkenness, his second offence within six months. To Appear at Blenheim. Lawrence Roland Cowper, twentyfour years of age, a seaman, of Cambridge Terrace, pleaded not guilty to obtaining credit by fraud to the extent of £1 5s from Doris Lilian Chapman, at Blenheim, on July 13. He was remanded to appear at Blenheim on August 28. Bail was allowed in self £25 and one surety of £25. Name Suppressed. A youth of nineteen years, whose name was suppressed, pleaded guilty to three charges of stealing sacks, valued in all at £2 10s 6d, belonging to the Canterbury Co-operative Poultry Producers’ Association, the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency, Ltd., and the National Mortgage and Co., Ltd. He was represented by Mr Twyneham, and was admitted to probation for twelve months, being ordered to refund 22s 6d.

Mr Twyneham .said a position had been secured for the boy in the country. He had always been anxious to go to the country. Not one penny' of the proceeds of the thefts had been sperjt on himself. Up to the present time his father had opposed the boy’s wish to secure work in the country.
