VICE-REGAL. The Governor-General (Lord Bledisloe) and Lady Bledisloe arrived from the north this morning and are staying at the United Service Hotel. Today thev attended the trotting meeting at Addington. Mr V. E. Hamilton, manager of Mason, Struthers, Ltd., has returned to Christchurch from Wellington. Mr J. 11. Mason, a director of *the J. C. Williamson Picture Corporation, Ltd., is visiting Christchurch. The Rev Fielden Taylor and the Rev E. P. Blamires arrived from the north this morning. Mr A. A. M’Lean, of Tisdalls, Ltd., Christchurch, has been transferred to Hamilton as manager of the Hamilton branch of the rm. He will leave Christchurch at the end of this month. Commander E. Lyon Berthcn, commander of the-training ship Philomel and naval officer in charge at Auckland, has been selected to command H.M.S. Crusader, when the Second Destroyer Flotilla recommissions. The following members of the Legislative Council arrived from Wellington to-dav: Sir R. Heaton Rhodes, Sir James Allen, the Hon R. Moore, the Hon D. Buddo and the Hon F. Waite. The following members of Parliament arrived from W ellington this morning:—Messrs H. Holland, 11. T. Armstrong, L. •C. Carr, J. O’Brien, D. G. Sullivan, E. J. Howard, J. Connollv, F. Tones, 11. S. S. Kyle and Mrs E. R. M’Combs. Guests at the New City Hotel include: Messrs G. F. Dewhurst (Palmerston North), L. D. Broderick (Wellington), W. J. Iladfield (Nelson), F. Crawford, D. E.’ Jones and E. Pearson (Beaumont) and L. A. Duncan (Dunedin).
Mr S. H. Fordham, one of the Auckland representatives for Aspro, Ltd., Wellington, has been transferred to Christchurch to take over the Canterbury territory from Mr B. O. Stennett, who .replaces Mr Fordham ,a\ Auckland.
Mr H. A. Barnett, who has been on the staff of the Rakaia School since tx.e beginning of the year, has relinquished his position to take up an appointment with W. 11. Tisdall, Ltd. Mr Barnett, w r ho is a prominent New Zealand lawn tennis player, is playing in the Varsity senior hockey team this winter.
Lieutenant R. H. Courange, of H.M.S. Dunedin, will leave by the Aorangi on August 21 to attend a special course in signalling in England. Lieutenant T. D. Herrick, of H.M.S. Laburnum, will transfer to the Dunedin, and SubLieutenant H. S. Barber, who will arrive from England next month, will be appointed to the Laburnum. At a meeting of the Committee of Management of the Rhodes Memorial Convalescent Home held on Thursday, Mr 11. A. Bruce, who has been actingchairman for the past six months, was elected chairman of the committee, and Mr A. V. Winchester w’as welcomed as a new member to fill the vacancy caused by the late chairman’s death. Mr LamKert Bowen was elected to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Mr Walcot Wood.
Mr F. J. Quinn, Commissioner of Crown Lands at Napier, has been appointed Commissioner of Crown Lands at Christchurch. Mi F. R. Burnley, chief surveyor at Napier, has been appointed Commissioner of Crown Lands at Napier. Mr C. G. S. Ellis, chief draughtsman at Christchurch, has been appointed acting-deputy-chief surveyor at Christchurch. Mi P. W. G. Barlow, chief draughtsman and land transfer draughtsman at Napier, has been appointed chief surveyor at Napier.
