D.I.C. BALL.

400 Guests Attend Staff’s Annual Dance. NOTABLE SUCCESS. Of the big staff dances held during the winter season, the D.l.C.’s annual ball deserves honourable mention. This year's dance, held last evening at the Winter Garden, was attended by some 400 guests. Numbers alone, however, cannot secure the success of a gathering, for which something more is needed. That something more, a spirit of goodfellowship and joie de vivre among the guests, was most marked at last night’s ball. That everyone was enjoying himself was perfectly plain, as from the start the dance went with a swing. The committee had made complete arrangements for the entertainment of the guests. Music, supplied by the Bailey-Marston Orchestra, was practically continuous, and many novelties were introduced to enliven the proceedings. The committee comprised: Misses M. Cooke, K. Jackson, Messrs L .Campbell, F. Tunnicliffe, with Miss \V. Smith and Mr S. M. Burnside as joint secretaries. Miss Smith wore a becoming frock of sapphire blue velvet with a little bow at the back lined with silver lame. Lame also edged the open top of the cowled sleeves which fitted tightly to the wrists. Miss Jackson’s frock of jonquil gold matelasse had little slit puff sleeves trimmed with frilling. Among those present were: Mesdames H. C. Hasaall, T. W. Vickery, H. Cameron, C. E. Sendai], R. T.
