CITY ESTIMATES.

The sub-committee, consisting of Councillors J. Iv. Archer, E. 11. Andrews and M. E. Lyons, which was set up by the Finance. Committee of the City Council on Monday to review the estimates ( for the present year before their final adoption, will be in a position to present it.s report to the committee on Tuesday next. It is now considered tinlikely that a special meeting of the council will be called to adopt the estimates and fix the rates, but that this will be done at the meeting on Monday. August 13. Though it is not yet definite that there will not be an increase in the general rate, it is still regarded as unlikely that any change will be made th the present rate.
