WAGES RESTORATION.
Waimairi Council Adheres to Decision.
The Waimairi County Council met last evening. Present: Messrs W. P. Spencer (chairman), J. Liggins, W. Price, T. O. Newnham. G. G. Gardner, W. G. Chapman, C. W. Moore, F. S. Scott, W. J. Walter and C. E. Cross. The relief works sub-committee reported that it had discussed the schema of relief suggested by Mr Chapman, and had decided that to adopt it would probably create many complications. It was recommended that any cases of distress coming under the . notice of members of the council be reported and that the chairman and clerk be empowered to arrange for the distribution of coal in such cases. The report was adopted. v In accordance with notice, Mr Moore moved that the minute recording the decision of the council on June 22 for the partial restoration of the 10 per cent wage cut to employees receiving £2OO a year and less be rescinded. He explained that he wanted the minute rescinded, because he considered that the voting had been recorded incorrectly. Mr Moore said that he was not opposed to the restoration, and the only purpose of his motion was to have the names of the members recorded as they had voted. The motion was lost by seven votes to three, the voting against the motion being Messrs Ltggins. Price. Newnham, Chapman, Scott, Walter and Spencer. Those who voted for the motion were Messrs Moore, Cross and Gardner. Mr Newnham gave notice to move at the next meeting that the 5 per cent cut be restored to all employees.
