Vulnerability of Capital Tested by Aircraft. United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, July 24. '1 he test air raids began last night when 180 bombing ’planes flew towards the capital and a similar number of defending fighters, aided by searehhghts, anti-aircraft batteries and the Civilian Observer Corps, sought to waylay and destroy them. The chief objectives of the raiders included the Air Ministry and “ the seat of government of Northland.” A communique stated that ” bomber formations were picked up and reported by the Observer Corps, upon which eight fighter squadrons were despatched to intercept them. The raiders bombed seven targets.”
