OVERSEAS MARKETS.

Japan Will Buy More Wool From New Zealand. BALANCE OF TRADE. KOBE, July 24. The Foreign Office is devising a plan for adjusting commercial lopsidedness. It is the intention to regard the British dominions as a single unit, because, whereas South Africa and New Zealand buy more than they sell to Japan, Australia and Canada are big sellers. Last year the trade of the dominions with Japan was 1G7,000,000 yen adverse to Japan. Therefore the dominions collectively have no excuse for restricting Japanese imports. It is proposed to make an endeavour to equalise South African and New Zealand trade by' buying more wool. Queensland Chilled Meat Shipments. BRISBANE. July 24. A new monthly shipping service between Queensland and British ports was inaugurated with the arrival here of the Blue Star Line steamer Albion Star.

Fast motor ships will be placed in the service early next year and these will be able to carry the chilled meat which Queensland is placing on the English market in an increasing quantity. French Participation in Wool Sales. (Received July 25, 12.15 p.m.) LONDON, July 24. The “ Yorkshire Observer ” says:— “Traders are wondering whether, in view of the unemployment in Tourcoing and Roubaix, France will participate in the Australian wool sales. Germany and Italy are also unlikely to operate. Bradford considers that Australia should extend her selling season until Christmas in order to maintain values at an economic level.”
