Dog-in-Manger Policy.
Dear Sir, —While I realise that the Broadcasting Hoard’s task of attempting to satisfy all radio listeners is an impossible one, I nevertheless fail to understand its attitude in preventing B class stations from giving listeners programmes which they appreciate. As an instance I quote the curtailing of the ball-to-ball description of the Test cricket which was being broadcast from station 3ZM. This service must most assuredly have been appreciated by local cricket enthusiasts not possessing sets powerful- enough for Australian reception and it seems a great pity that these listeners should be deprived of perhaps one of their greatest pleasures. What is the object of the board in barring this service? It cannot be because it wishes to use the air, as this service started after the YA stations had closed down. It may be that the board is jealous of the popularity of the B stations, but whatever the reason may be, I, as well as many others, would appreciate a statement by the board in defence of what I regard as an inconsiderate action.—l am, etc., R.C.H. Spreydon.
