SEEDS FOR UNEMPLOYED.

The substantial turnover under the scheme to supply seeds and plants to the unemployed at cheap rates was shown in figures supplied to members at the annual meeting of the Garden Allotments Committee yesterday afternoon. It was stated that the total number of men who applied was 1163. Lime sold amounted to seven tons eight hundredweight, and 707 fourteenpound bags of manure had been sold. Sales of seed potatoes amounted to 2058 pounds, and 740 S 3d packets of seeds had been sold at Id a packet, and 2285 6d packets of seeds at 2d a packet. The total takings amounted to £lO4 19s lid. The committee’s depot had distributed 29,690 plants, consisting of cabbages, broccoli, savoys, cauliflowers, sprouts, lettuce, leeks, celery and tomatoes. There were also 5000 lettuce plants given free of charge by Mr Hadfield and the nurseries.
