Meeting to Discqss Carnival Abandoned. A meeting called by the Mayor (Mr W. T. Lester), at the request of the Lyttelton Unemployed Workers’ Association, to consider the question of organising a queen carnival for the relief of distress was abandoned last evening owing to lack of public support. The meeting was to have been held in the Council Chambers at 7.30 and at that hour the Mayor, the Town Clerk (Mr F. Hobbs) and Councillors J. N. Neville and A. 11. Fowles were present. At 7.50 there were no further arrivals and the meeting was abandoned. Seamen’s Institute. An “ At Home ” will be held in the Seamen’s Institute at Lyttelton on Thursday afternoon, when members from all the Ladies’ Guilds and supporters will attend. YWCA. Fan. A special meeting of the committee ot the Lyttelton Y.W.C.A was held to make finai arrangements for the bungalow fair to be held this week in the Excelsior Hall. The Mothers’ | Club was reported to be working to ! make the tair as successful as last i year’s.
