TROTTING NOTES.

for the trotting events to be decided at the Christchurch Hunt Club's meeting will close ou August 1.

_ Acceptances for the first day* of the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s August meeting are due on August 7 at noon.

The single pool system of betting, and two dividends will be used at the Greymouth Trotting Club’s meeting.

Acording to Australian turf journals there is every prospect of the trotting clubs in New South Wales adopting the New Zealand system of handicapping.

The Karamea-trained pacer Bingen Palm will be watched fairly closely* at the Greymouth Trotting Club’s meeting. He has won four races on the West Coast this season and undoubtedly’ is a above the average in his class. Bingen Palm is a brother to Olive Palm, and looks and goes like a potential champion. ALL FOR DUNDEE.

Speculators will go in at the deep end at Greymouth to-morrow on Dundee, who is recognised as one of the most promising pacers at Addington. Dundee began well in his last effort, and if he leaves the mark smoothly tomorrow his supporters should not have any* anxiety*. He looks, and acts as if he could handle a small track.

Mother’s Boy looks a class above the field that he is down to meet in the Borough Handicap at the Greymouth Trotting Club’s meeting. He is set to give away 72 yards in a smin ssec class, and provided the track is firm, that should be no trouble to him. He has a lot of speed, and he can stay. WILL BE FAVOURITE.

Blandford is in splendid order for his Greymouth engagements, and a number of track-watchers at Addington will be all the poorer if he fails in his West Coast assignments. Blandford has shown a liking for the Greymouth track, and he will be equal to a solidlyrun mile and a quarter. He is a good beginner, and everything looks to be in his favour. WEST COAST TRAIN. A number of Canterbury* sportsmen are contemplating taking advantage of the special train that will leave Christ ; church on Saturday* morning next at 6.10 o’clock for Greymouth and Hokitika. It will arrive at Greymouth in time for patrons to attend the second day of the Greymouth Trotting Club’s winter meeting. They* will return by a special train which will leave Greymouth at 11.53 p.m., and is due at Christchurch at 5.29 on Sunday morning. The cheap fares available, namely 10s 6d return, will encourage many enthusiasts, who in addition to seeing an excellent day’s racing, will enjoy the trip through country which provides great scenic attractions. SHOULD RACE WELL. Jacob should be at home on the oval at Greymouth. He is a quick beginner, and the dirt track will be to his liking. He has some promising form to his credit, and with the assistance, of J. Bryce, jun., he should fulfil the expectations of his admirers. * * * * Considerable interest will be taken in the efforts of Princess Onyx at the Greymouth Trotting Club’s meeting. She is only a two-year-old, but she is above the average, and will not disgrace herself, even among her much older and experienced rivals. A SPEEDY PACER, Travis Pringle has previously shown to advantage on the half-mile track at Greymouth, and his form suggests that a mile and a quarter would suit, him nicely. He is on the front of the Introductory Handicap. It is a ten furlongs contest. * * * * Insolvent’s form has been a bit of a puzzle, for since fighting out a finish with Dundee at the end of a mile and a half at Ashburton in June he has started three times and has been down the course on each occasion. He has two engagements at Grey*mouth to-mor-row, and if he repeats his Ashburton form he should win. A LIKELY SORT. The three-year-old gelding De Soto showed a lot of speed at Ashburton recently, but failed in the heavy ground at the Marlborough Trotting Club’s meeting. De Soto has improved with the racing he has had, and he should pay his way at the Greymouth Trotting Club’s meeting. HONEST BETTY. Betty Wrack has done exceptiopally well since she won at the Marlborough Trotting Club’s meeting, and she will strip in fine form for her races at the Greymouth Trotting Club’s meeting. Betty Wrack is on the limit of both her races, and being a quick beginner, and nippy round turns, she should succeed. She will be thoroughly tested by Encounter, who won attractively at the Ashburton Trotting Club’s meeting. Betty Wrack will see out every inch of a mile and a half journey, and she is game. \ NELL YOLO SPELLING. The injury x o one of Nell Yolo’s legs on the eve of the Auckland Trotting Club’s winter meeting did not mend as quickly as expected, with the result that the mare is now* spelling. A visit to Addington had been planned, for at the time of the mishap Nell Yolo, was trotting in better style than ever. F. J. Smith has received from breeding experts several tempting offers for Nell Volo, but it is probable that he will give her another preparation for racing. If she strikes form, she will later come to Addington to try conclusions with the best of the local trotters. As a brood mare .she should prove most valuable, as she is bred on the best American trotting lines. Her sire, Peter -Yolo, and dam, Katie O’Neill, have each produced a good number of standard trotters round the twominute class. TROTTING FIXTURES. July 26—Waimate D. H C. Ju 1 v 25. 28—Greymouth T.C.
