NOT ON SUNDAY.

Decision Regarding League j Match. VIVIAN CUP FIXTURE. A suggestion that the Hornby-Adding-ton Vivian Cup match arranged for next Saturday should be played on a Sunday was made by Mr It. A. Drury at a meeting of the Canterbury Rugby League executive last evening. Mr Drury’s proposal was not supported, but it was decided to play the game later in the season. “ The Horn by-Addington game will be a first-class display,” said Mr Drury. *• I would not like to see it played, next Saturday, but rather as a Sunday fixture. The League could give half its gate to charity.” Mr H. King said that Sunday play for a trophy would not be countenanced. Such a game as was suggested would raise a storm of protest. The chairman (Mr W. S. E. Moyle) declared that the game should not tie played on a Sunday. On some future occasion the League would really want a permit to play on Sunday for a special fixture, and the privilege should not be abused. The position was different with the recent Tnangahua representative game with Canterbury'. The game could not have been played on anj day but Sunday under the circumstances If the League w'ent. against the wishes of the public. it would never again get Sunday play. The match committee considered tne proposal to defer the game, and it was decided to amend the draw to give Hornby n game with New Brighton and Addimrton a match with Lin wood , next Snturdav. No date was fixed for the adjourned game, hut it will not be played on a Sunday.
