Earthquake Was Long Way Off. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, July 23. An earthquake was recorded at the Dominion observatory beginning at 4.45 p.m. on Saturday. The Government seismologist stated that the records indicated that the centre was 2160 miles away, but the direction is unknown. He also said the distance estimated from here did not agree with 1950 miles north-west of Sydney, as stated by Riverview Observatory. (Cable messages on the subject appear on page 1.)
