TREES IN STREETS.
City Council Planting Operations. A change has been made by the Reserves Committee of the City Council in the policy in regard to the plantmg of trees in residential streets. In the past the residents or propertyowners have been required to contribute 10s each towards the cost of the trees, but as the Reserves Department has a number of suitable trees available in its own nursery, no charge is being made at present. Cardiff Avenue, Somerfield, Diamond Avenue, Spreydon, and Ryan vStreet, YYoolston, have recently been planted with trees, and it is proposed to deal with a number of other streets in the near future. Planting is, however, restricted to streets where a wide footpftth is allowed, and, where possible, the trees are placed inside the line of the side channel.
