PERSONAL.

The Mayor of Christchurch (Mr D. G. Sullivan. M.P.) returned to Christchurch from Wellington yesterday. Messrs D. Davidson (Timaru) and A. C. Cameron (Dunedin) are among recent arrivals at the Clarendon Hotel. The Hon Vincent Ward was a passenger by the Maori from Wellington yesterday.

Mrs E. R. M’Combs, M.P., and Mr H. T. Armstrong, M.P.. returned from Wellington yesterday morping. Mr D. S. MacKenzie has been appointed a member of the Motunau Rabbit Board in place of Mr D. T. Matson, who has resigned.

Inspector L. E. O’Halloran passed through Christchurch on Saturday on his way to Timaru, to take up his appointment there. Mr A. E. Lawry has been appointed a member of the Avon licensing district in place of Mr F. D. Muirson, States the Gazette. Mr H. P. Lawry. S.M., will leave Christchurch this evening for Wellington, where he will act as relieving Magistrate for a further period. Mr Justice Johnston left for Timaru this morning, where he will preside at the quarterly sessions of the Supreme Court. He will return to Christchurch bn Monday next. The Rev Alan C. Watson, of St Paul’s Presbyterian Church, was taken to Lewisham Hospital on Saturday for an operation for appendicitis, and so will not be able to take the pulpit for some weeks.

A motion of appreciation of the work done by the Governor-General, Lord Bledisloe, during his period of office in New Zealand, was passed by the meeting of the Christchurch Tomato and Stone-Fruit Growers’ Association on Saturday night. Regret at the resignation, of Mr W. A. Wynn, testing officer for the South Canterbury Herd Testing Association, as expressed in the annual report of the association. His efforts, it .is stated, had contributed to a great extent to the success of the work.

The Canterbury Tomato and Stonefruit Growers’ Association decided at its meeting on Saturday to support the candidature of Mr G. E. Biflson for the office of director for Canterbury of the New Zealand Fruit Growers’ Federation.

Guests at the New City Hotel include Messrs T. D. Pearce (Invercargill), W. B. Williams (Auckland), S. Nevrieck and A. M’Dougall (Napier), C. W. Greives (Happy Valley), Dr F. Meyer (U.S.A.) and Messrs L. J. Smith, R. A. Smith, M. C. Officer, R. P. Johnston, S. Taylor and C. Hayward (Dunedin).

Mr H. W. C. Mackintosh, Commissioner of Crown Lands, has been elected unopposed as a member of the Public Service Superannuation Board to represent contributors belonging to departments of the public service other than the Post and Telegraph Department and the police force. The former representative was the late Mr J. W. Macdonald.
