SUPPLY OF TREES.
Encouraging Planting by Fafmcrs. PROGRESS LEAGUE’S SCHEME. An endeavour is being made by the Canterbury Progress League to put into operation again this year its treeplanting scheme, whereby farmers may receive trees at small cost from the 'State Forest Service. Owing to the fact that the State Forest Service has no surplus trees available in its Canterbury nurseries it is necessary for v the trees to be supplied from the Rotorua, Palmerston North and Hokitika nurseries, which will involve slightly greater expense for freight. Owing to the difficulty experienced last year in collecting the packing charges, it has been decided to ask all consignees to pay those charges, of 2s per 100 trees, in advance. In spite of the extra freight the cost of the ttees, of which a great variety is available, will be very low.
Orders must be sent through the league, which will hand the packing charges over to the State Forest Service. The league, which has already received numerous inquiries as to when the scheme will be commenced, is awaiting the approval of the department’s head office. Besides the packing charge, consignees, who will have the trees railed to their nearest station, will be required to pay railage before lifting the goods.
