The Girls Are Grieved.

Twenty-two buxom lassies down Somerset way thought they would like to have a nice football match at Yeovil. The County Football Association thounght otherwise. “We bean’t going to have zuch goings-on down these parts,” they said (in effect). There will be no match. And twenty-two Somerset lassies — the teams from Yeovil and Wells—supported by several thousand Soccer sisters up and down the country—are very angry, says the “ Daily Express ” correspondent. “ It is unfair,” expostulated a Tottenham girl footballer. “There are women’s clubs all over the country. International matches have been played between England and France. Football is an ideal game for girls. I have never heard of one being seriously injured in the game.” The Football Association has other views. Their official attitude is: “The council hold a strong opinion that football is absolutelye unsuitable for women. It is discouraged by the association, which has asked clubs to refuse the use of their grounds for women’s matches.” I asked the medical profession what they thought of the game for girls. “ Dangerous and degrading,” said one doctor, definitely. “ Perfectly suitable and healthy,” said another, emphatically. People can never agree over women.
