TOMATOES.
To raise tomatoes for spring and summer planting the seed should be at once sown in shallow boxes or pans and placed in the warmest part of the greenhouse, or failing this a close frame in a warm situation will answer requirements. After sowing, cover the box or pan with a pane of glass and shade with paper until the seeds show signs of germination, when the shade should be removed. As soon as they have made three or four of their rough leaves, pick out into boxes, allowing a space of about 3in between each plant, so that when ready for transplanting they can he lifted with as little check as possible.
