BREACHES OF AWARD.
Clothing Manufacturers Charged.
Two breaches of the Canterbury Clothing Trades Award were alleged in the Magistrate’s Court before Mr H. A. Young, S.M., yesterday, in a case in which R. T. Bailey, Inspector of Awards, claimed the sum of £2O as penalties from G. A. Tattle (trading as France and Company), clothing manufacturers. Uehfleld Street, but now of Otakl Railway. The alleged breaches by defendant, for whom Air Sim appeared, were that he employed an apprentice and failed to pay her the rate of wages provided by the award, and also dismissed her and failed to provide her with another employer who would be willing to undertake the obligation of teaching her the trade as required by the award.
The Magistrate eaid that there was no doubt that the firm acted in a bona fide manner in the matter under a misapprehension, and that as there might be a question of damages involved he would impose a penalty of 5s on each charge, with mileage and witnesses’ expenses.
