SINGLE BERTH CABINS.
Construction on Shaw, Savill Vessels. An index of public preference—and one that is not without implication of better times—is the number of people who are not only travelling overseas but also are booking more expensive and more exclusive accommodation. So strong, for instance, has been the demand for single berth cabins that alterations are now being made in the Shaw. Savill passenger fleet to cope with this single-berth demand. On tbe boat deck of both the Mataroa and the Tamaroa twenty-two single bedstead rooms are at present being built, also a new verandah cafe extending the full width of the vessel. Where the verandah cafe was originally situated on A deck, a further four single bedstead cabins and two private bathrooms are being built. While alterations are in progress, a gymnasium is being built on B deck, and the library and lounge are being converted into one large lounge. There will now be over fifty singleberth cabins available on every Shaw, Savill cabin class liner—and in addition 60 per cent of the passenger accommodation of the new motor vessels Waipawa, Wairangi and Waiwera is also in single-berth cabins—each with private bathroom and Ainning hot and cold water. Alterations to the Tamaroa should soon be completed, as this vessel is scheduled to leave Southampton on September 7. The Mataroa. which will be the next sailing, does not leave England until November 2.
