The Canterbury Team.

Dear Sir, —Looking through the list cf players to train for the Canterbury team, it is hard to understand, after witnessing the game on the Oval on Saturday, why there have been so many from the Old Boys’ Club chosen. I noticed Old Boys had seven of their players in. training playing, and Christchurch gave them a good whacking to the tune of 14 to 3. I consider this is not a good advertisement for the selector. There are two players who, to my surprise. have not been included to train. They are L. Brown and \V. Brown, of the Sydenham Club. \V. Brown, the winger, I should class as one of the best in Canterbury. His handling is perfect, while his tackling could not be bettered. If he has the ball in his possession anywhere near the line he will take a power of stopping. The last two reasons Canterbury have not produced anv outstanding half-back. I am of the opinion L. Brown, the Sydenham half, is the pick of the lot of moderates this season. He is sturdy and can take a lot of punishment, while his passes are fast and accurate from the scrum. If given an opportunity behind a good pack of forwards I do not hesitate to say that he would go further than representative honours. I hope that these two have not been an oversight on the part of Mr Harris.—l am, etc., FIFTY FIFTY. “ Old Timer ” suggests the following team: Nolan, Hart, Oliver. Mann, Mortlock, Hooper, Bouterev or Oliver. Andrews, Sweeney, Manchester. Howell, Deavoll. Bourne, Cottrell and D. Callanan. “ I think the selector has overlooked tw’o of our best forwards, viz., Sweeney and Bourne,” hs *rids.
