BETTER POSITION.

“Farmers Getting on Feet Again.” Her Press Association. WELLINGTON, July 10. “The revenue figures of the Lands and Survey Department for the first two months of the current year show that farmers are getting on their feet again, notwithstanding the adverse conditions,” said the Minister of Lands, the Hon E. A. Ransom, in an interview this evening. The Minister said the ordinary revenue for April and May, according to figures just submitted to him, was £144,547, compared with £70,547 in the corresponding period last year, an increase of 104 per cent. Revenue accruing to the Discharged Soldiers’ Settlement Account in the same periods was £217,654 and £149,278 respectively, an increase this year of 45 per cent. The overall increase was £142,376 or 64 per cent. “These figures are all the more satisfactory when it is remembered that last year’s revenue represented an Increase of 25 per cent on that of the previous year,” said Mr Ransom. “The figures show that the assistance given to farmers by the Government is bearing fruit.”
