GIRL CHAMPION.
Brilliant Golf by Pamela Barton. WINS FRENCH TITLE. A cablegram on Saturday stated that in the final of the French women's championship at Le Touquet, Miss Pamela Bartoji, London, playing brilliant golf, defeated Mile, de Lavigne, 11 and 9. Miss Pamela Barton, who is seventeen years of age. left school at Easter cf this year, and in less than four months has been phenomenally successful. Playing in the British ladies’ open championship at Porthcawl she produced magnificent golf for one of her years and reached the final, to be beaten by Mrs Holm, who has won the Scottish championship twice ip the past four years.
Miss Barton’s golf in this event astonished the critics, who predicted a brilliant future for her. Her tee shots were prodigious for a woman player and on the greens her putting was masterly. In the morning round cf the final she required only twentyseven putts in all and was 1 up at that stage. Mrs Holm played thirteen holes in level fours in the afternoon and gave the yduthful player no chance. Latef Miss Barton was picked to play in the annual match between the ladies and men and again gave a good account of herself. • Mi§s Barton has a beautiful style with a wide swing, but her iron piav is still rather a -weakness; as is her pitched shot to the green, ; the latter being inclined to be too strong. In putting she is slow and deliberate, and hits the balls sweetly with unusual confidence. Her match play temperament is excellent, as she never lets up and believes in adopting shock tactics from the beginning, treating the early part of a match as the most important. All her golf has been "learned iri her holidays, and she has a handicap of four at Royal Mid-Surrey and West Middlesex clubs. Hororata Club Wins Against Avondale.
