FIXTURES. July 16 to 30—New Zealand miniature rifle championships. July 28—8.5. A. Empire Cup match. August 4—South Island championships, at Timaru. August 25—Christchurch Junior and President’s grade championships. Winter Tournament. Record scores were put up in the match between United and Lyttelton last week. United totalled 555 out of a possible 560, defeating Lyttelton by the narrow margin of one point. Neither team counted in scores under 61). D. Rollo, F. Hodge and S. O. Hav (United) and F. Mills and R. Burberv (Lyttelton) scored possibles. United should prove a hard proposition for their opponents in the second round, which starts on August 2. Ford Motors, who are shooting much better, surprised Christchurch Working Men’s Club by totalling 553. J. Elaworth and A. Purves put on excellent possibles, and were mainly responsible for Ford Motors’ win. The club, which is out of luck this season, has been defeated on several occasions after shooting good totals. Last week Working Men’s Club registered 551, losing by two points. R. Davidson scored Working Men’s Club's only possible. New Brighton, who are not shooting up to earlier totals, were easily defeated by Christchurch by six points. K. Truman (70) and D. Burgess (70) were top for Christchurch (551). Sumner defeated Returned Soldiers by eighteen points. Possibles were scored for Sumner by C. Hart. C. Timbrel 1, G. Alexander and J. Fox. Returned Soldiers, who have been shootiag with old rifles, should do much better in future matches. Their new rifles arrived from England during the week-end. Cashmere always had their match with Sydenham well in hand, and won by four points. Sydenham have shown disappointing form this vear S Nelson scored the only possible for Sydenham, whilst G. E. Naylor, F. Sullivan and L. Carlyle had similar cards for the winners. Junior Notes. Cashmere registered their eighth consecutive win when they defeated Rail- ; V AU; y 'A 4 polnts to 533. L. Hulbert of a th h e m match SeCUred the on,y Marist Old Boys (544) proved too good for Kaiapoi Woollen by twelve points. L. Ryan (Marist) was too scorer with the only possible. The junior Ashby Cup contest is proving most interesting. With half the C V^ S J? red ’ - only three points separate the first nine men. President’s Cup. Lyttelton failed to maintain the record score of 552 put on in their previous match. Against Sydenham they dropped to 535, winning by seven points. Two of the ladies’ teams were successful last week. Ward’s defeated Marist Old Boys and New Brighton accounted for Returned Soldiers by 542 points to 532. Miss Vaughan, Mrs M’Clelland and Miss Corser (New Brighton) and Mrs A. B. L. Smith (Ward’s) each scored 69. Cashmere, who are now shooting much better, surprised Christchurch Working Men’s Club (544) by running up 548, the top total for the week in this grade. L. Bramley scored a possible for Cashmere. Mrs Nuttal (Celtic Ladies) is to be congratulated on her consistent shoot> ing. Last week she again registered one off the possible. Mrs Nuttal is leading for the Reece Aggregate Cup by three points.

Championship Jottings. The leading teams in the champion teams match last Saturday registered 315, the total with which West Melton won in 1933. West Melton again totalled 315, tieing with Cashmere’s No. 2 team. These two teams will shoot off for the Shields next Saturday evening. R. FT. Niclioll. of Wellington, who competed at the last three Christchurch meetings, had the honour of winning in 1932 and 1934, besides being runnerup in 1933—a great performance. Jn 1932 Nicholl won with fourteen consecutive bullseyes. H. Thomson (Cashmere), with twenty-one bullseyes, won last year, and this year Nicholl won with seventeen bullseyes. At Ward's Ladies’ practice leading scores were:—Mrs A. B. L. Smith 69, Mrs Harper 69. Mrs R. Smith 67, Mrs Erikson > 67, Miss L. Smith 67, Mrs Fuller 68, Mrs Rreeoe 68, Miss Wilson 69, Mrs Crocker 67. Mrs Gorkin 66, Miss Best 66. Miss Wilson gained a point for the senior button and Mrs Preece gained a point for the junior button.

The following men are leading in the various competitions conducted by the Returned Soldiers’ Miniature Rifle Club: Championship—F. Sharman 417. C. Farley 415, E. Peach 415, J. Wilson 350; Emerson Cup (Bulls-eye competition) C. Farlev 28. W. P. Riches 28, X. Blyth 27. R. Dobson 27. All competitions have the two lowest shoots cut out. B.S.A. Cup Match. The following riflemen have been selected by the Christchurch Association’s selection committee to take part in a trial match to select the Canterbury representatives for the Empire B. Cup match:—C. Timbrell, G. Alexander, C. Hart, C. Peagram (Sumner), G. Crimp, J. R. Hollows (Christchurch Working Men’s Club), S. O. Hay, C. Thom. R. Hay, C. Burford, E. Corkin. L. Williams (United), J. Chapman. H. Matthews, E. Truman, R. Shaw (Christchurch). F. Sullivan, A. Haworth, R. E. Taylor, L. Carlyle, R. Neill, G. E. Naylor (Cashmere), 11. Ragg (New Brighton), A. Brunning (Ford Motors). C. Jessop, W. R. Barrett, D. M' Dona Id (Sydenham), C. Farley, J. Bassett (Returned Soldiers), R. Sowden (Lyttelton), J. M’Carthy (Marist Old Boys). The trial will be held on Thursday, July 26. and the match on Saturday, July 28, both on the Christchurch Miniature Rifle Association’s range. Ferry Road. Any rifleman unable to take part must notify the secretary, Mr A. Tongue, immediately. The Canterbury team of 20 will be selected at the conclusion of the trial match. This competition is fired annually between*the States and Provinces of Great Britain and the Dominions.

The Cashmere Club fired its thirteenth hotty competition last evening. Leading scores were: L. Bramley 70-68, L. Carlyle 70, A. Griffith 7C-68, R. Neill 70-70, L. E. Neill 70-68, G. E. Naylor 70, G. Pierson 70. In the shoot-off for the Naylor and Clark trophies. L. E. Neill won both with 6S-1-69, 70-2-72. This club is entering three teams in the New Zealand championship.

The United Club’s weekly sweepstake resulted: D. Rolls 69-1-70, E. Corkin 70-0-70. The hotty button was won by E. Paton. The Neale trophy shoot will be fired next Monday night.
