Gatherings Held in Town and Suburbs. TENNIS CLUB'S DANCE. The Barring-ton Tennis Club held a dance recently in the Selwyn Street Hall. The success of the evening was due to the efforts of an energetic committee. The music was supplied by the Herdman-Fisk Orchestra. Among those present were: Mesdames A. J. Hall, Trevor Gooseman, F. A dance under the auspices of the Old Girls’ Association was held in the Avonside High School Assembly Hall on Saturday evening. Music was supplied by Terry Minson’s Dance Band. The guests of honour were Mrs Dacre and Mrs Minson.

Nora Dixon, Florence Stinear, Audrey Hunter, Phyllis Trethewey, Joyce Williams, Beatrice Nunnerley, Eileen O’Connor, Kathleen Kent, Doreen Bennett, Dorothy Holmes, Freda Campbell. Eileen Evans, Rhona Mills, Doris Reed. Mona Smithers, Patricia Nicholas, Alma Bellman, Melva Edwards. Mavis Barter, L. Sutton, Eunice Jackson, Phyllis Jackson, Gwen Main and Natalie Litchfield. Surprise Party. An enjoyable evening was arranged by the Nga Pari Tennis Club, when the members paid a surprise visit to the home of Mr and Mrs G. Buist. During the evening the club president presented Mr and Mrs G, Buist and Misses Frances and Florence Buist each with a gift in appreciation of their kindness to the club during the season. Competitions and games were enjoyed. The winners of competitions were Mrs J. D. Cairney, Miss J. Japp and Mr S. Nicholls, and consolation prizes were awarded to Messrs B. Miller and D. Hock. Those present were: Mesdames G. Buist and J. D. Cairney, Misses Florence Buist. Frances Buist, Adelaide Barnes, Phyllis Devan, Rhona Billens, Jean Japp, Thelma Short, Nancy Barr and Betty M’Clymont, Messrs S. Miller, D. Hock. A. M’Nally, B. Miller, S. Nicholls, R. Cullen and H. Johnston. Social and Dance. On Saturday evening a social and dance was held by the Jolly Companions Club in the Selwyn Street Kindergarten. Mr B. R. Cottrell was M.C. and the Rhythm Quartet supplied the music, Miss Coote and Messrs A, Olin and L. Coote playing extras. A song contributed by Miss Gwen Gregson was much appreciated. A Monte Carlo onestep was won by Miss L. Kennard and partner. Among those present were: Misses Phillis Cogle, Joyce Pearce, Joyce Cogle, Rona Beswick.
