R.S.A. PROTEST.
Placing of B 2 Men on Half
Sustenance.
A serious question in regard to unemployment exercised the minds of the executive of the Christchurch Returned Soldiers’ Association last evening. Mr W. E. Leadley moved: “ 'rtiat this association emphatically protests to the Unemployment Board against any returned soldier suffering from war disability being taken from relief works and placed on sustenance at reduced rates. It wholeheartedly supports the resolution on sustenance passed by the recent Dominion Council of the N.Z.R.S.A.” Mr T. L. Drummond seconded the resolution, which was carried unanimously.
This morning a deputation from the association, consisting of the president (the Rev F. T. Read) and Messrs Leadlev, E. Orchard and E. F. Willcox, waited on Councillor J. S. Barnett, chairman of the Works Committee of the City Council, regarding the placing of B2 men on sustenance when suitable employment can be provided. Councillor Bardett promised to give the matter consideration and to bring it before a meeting of the Works Committee to-morrow afternoon.
