YACHTSMAN’S DEATH.

(Special to the “ Star.’*) DUNEDIN, July 3. The death has occurred of Mr Walter Nigel Oliphant, one of Otago’s bestknown yachtsmen and donor of the Oliphant Cup for competition between fourteen footers. Mr Oliphant had been in the employ of Bing, Harris and Company for forty-three years. Another well-known yachtsman, Mr William J. Waters, died suddenly when on a visit to the Commercial Travellers’ Club. He was formerly commodore of the Otago Yacht Club, and owner of yachts and speed boats. Mr Waters was a certificated marine engineer, and had been employed on the Westport Coal Company’s colliers for a number of years. On coming ashore he entered into partnership with Mr J. A. D. Hunter, and they acquired the brass foundry of Anderson and Company.
