GIRL DUPES VICAR.

Admits Forging Parents’ Names. “ LOVE LAUGHS AT THE LAW.” (Special to the “ Star.”) LONDON, May 17. A young married girl, who forged the consent of her father to her wedding, appeared in the dock at Bolton, Lancashire. “ Love, it appears, laughs not only at locksmiths, but at magistrates, parents and everyone else! ” said the prosecuting solicitor. The girl was Lucy Fisher, aged 18 years. With her husband, Harold Fisher, aged 20 years, she was charged with forging a document for the purpose of procuring a marriage contrary to the Guardianship of Infants Act, 1924, and also to the Forgery Act. It was stated that the couple applied to the court over a year ago for permission to marry, but the girl’s parents objected, and the application was refused following inquiries by her father.

At a Bolton church the police interviewed the vicar, and discovered he had in his possession a note granting permission for the marriage, and purporting to be signed by the girl’s parents. The parents, however, denied signing the note.

Lucy Fisher admitted in evidence that she wrote the note. The vicar stated that it was produced by the Fishers last May, and the marriage took place on July 15. The Mayor of Bolton, presiding magistrate, said the couple had committed a very serious offence, but nobody wished to spoil their lives. Thev would be bound over for twelve months.
