LINWOOD SCHOOL.

Concert Held to Assist Funds.

The popularity of the winter concerts at the Lin wood School was shown by the large attendance cn Saturday night, in spite of stormy weather. The programme went with a swing from start to finish, under the direction of the organiser. Mr R. L. Ashley, and encores "ere the order of the evening.

i Among the items were:—Duets in character, Zoe Ayling and Betty Burt, and Gwen Kelly and Rena Murie; elocutionary items. Zoe Ayling, .Tack Murie. ■Toy Duckworth and Joan Gracie. Betty Burt and Gwen Ketlv; vocal solos. Mr Desmond Hewitt. Gwen Kelly, Rena Murie: skipping dance. Eunice Adams (Wellington). The following pupilß of Miss Bessie MacDonald’s dancing school supplied the dancing numbers: —Noia Duckworth. acrobatic dance; Pat Rhodes, military dance; Noeline Bruce. Russian dance; Pat Rhodes and Sylvia Gunther, dance duo; and a tap ballet by four pupils. A conjuring act was performed by Mr Donald Hewitt in finished style. A spectacular item was the club swinging by Hope Frewer with illuminated clubs. One of the most popular items of the evening was the appearance of the Christchurch Harmonica Band in selections. At the close of the programme the chairman of the Linwood School Committee (Mr C. R. N. Mackie) thanked the performers for venturing out on such a wild night to assist the school funds.
