UNITED BURGESSES.
Officers Elected at Annual Meeting. The activities of the council of the United Burgesses’ Association during the past year were outlined by Mr A. Peverill in his report to the annual meeting of the association last evening. It was stated that a good deal of workhad been done, though not as much had been achieved as was-hoped. Amongst other things the report stated- “One factor that was placed before the City Council as of very grave importance to the whole of New Zealand was tire amalgamation of local bodies. After months of waiting for a committee’s report it was practically the weakest thing ever published. “ A committee of the association has been s\3t up to report fully on the amalgamation of local bodies. We are awaiting its report, which is taking some time to consider owing to balance-sheets not being to hand, and the same committee mav go into the matter of the City Council’s conversion of loans. That is going to be very far-reaching in its effects and more especially since w*e have a tramway rate and Drainage Board rate already saddled on to us.” The latter suggestion was adopted, with the report. Air J. S. Fronting reported that the financial,position of the association was satisfactory. There was a credit balance of £1 19s Bd. Officers were elected as follows: President, Air A. Peverill; vice-presi-dents, Messrs S. W. Richardson and G. E. Franklin; executive, Messrs E. R. Adcock and H. G. Ahlett; secretary, Mr James Stewart; treasurer, Air F. IJ. Prouting: honorary auditor and solicitor. Air T. S. Dacre. Referring to the association’s protest regarding the alleged dangerous position of the taxi-stand adjoining the Irani shelter, the Town Clerk replied that this had been referred to the Bylaws Committee. The Upper Riccarton and Sockburn Ratepayers’ Association wrote reporting that Messrs F. T. Whitty and F. J. Alley had been appointed to represent the association on the united body. The Woolston Ratepayers’ Association applied for affiliation, which was granted Mr E. L. Hills was accepted JS The North 0 Lin wood Burgesses’ Association wrote withdrawing its affilia-
