MAORI RELIC.

Rare Carved Bowl Found Near Tauranga. Per Pries Association. WELLINGTON. June 25 A rare carved Maori stone bowl, excavated near Tauranga. Bay of Plenty, fifteen or twenty years ago. is to be put up for auction by a Wellington firm on Wednesday. It is one of a number of Maori curios, some of undoubted value, from the collection of the late Mr T. Chamberlain, formerly of Khandallah, which is being sold. The bowl is unique in that pottery was not one of the great arts of the Maori so far as is known. It is distinguished further by being carved and .is believed, according to Maori mythology, to be the original Maori light bowl which was used during the migration of the race to this country.
