FARES DISCUSSED.

Committee Not in Favour of Reduction. The Works and Traffic Committee reported to the Christchurch Tramway Board this afternoon that it had considered the proposal that all cash fares be reduced by one penny per section, but had been unable to agree to the change, as it was of the opinion that, while increased travel would result, revenue in the aggregate would fall. The reduction of the cash fare to Id between the Square and the Hospital was proving popular. The financial effect of this change when ascertained would be of interest. The report was held over, Air W. J. Walter stating that he did not know the question was coming up for consideration.
