PILGRIMS FOREGATHER
Quarterly Reunion Held on Saturday. Over 300 members of the Canterbury Pilgrims and Early Colonists’ Association met in the Masonic Hall on Saturday afternoon for their quarterly meeting. Mr E. R. Webb presided. Though many early colonists were absent, amongst those present were Mr A. R. Pavitt, who came out on the lyionarch before the First Four Ships; Mrs E. D. Howell, a passenger on the Randolph; I and the Rev F. H. Brittan, a passenger on the Sir George Seymour. The afternoon was devoted to a musical programme and the showing of lantern slides chosen by Messrs E. R. Webb and A. Selwyn Buce. Mr Webb referred to the deaths of Mrs Walter Harper, Messrs John Anderson, George Hanmer, John Studholme and Joseph Wallace. An interesting series of lantern slides of early Christchurch and Lyttelton views were shown by Mr D. E. Huston, and explained by Messrs Webb and Bruce. A novelty that was much enjoyed was the dancing of a gavotte in Early Victorian costume by the Misses Ngaio Marsh and Viola Macmillan Brown and Messrs Dundas Walker, George Hutchinson, Fred Page and Robin Speight. The following was the musical programme:—Songs, Misses Millicent Jennings and Grace Torkington; sketch, “ The Crystal Gazers,” Misses Collins and Pearce; trio, Miss Middleton and Messrs A. Bidgocd and Francis Bate. Mesdames H. L. Bowker, C. Pvmm and G. L. Ostler, Misses L. Bowen, Ada Bowker, Carpenter and E. Overton served afternoon tea. The afternoon’s arrangements were in the hands of the secretary, Mr G. Hungerford.
