£SOOO STAMPS.

Record Price at London Auction. VALUABLE COLLECTION SOLD, United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received June 14, 9.45 a.m.) LONDON, June 13. The record price of £SOOO was paid at Harmer’s auction for an envelope bearing 1547 Mauritius twopenny blue and penny orange stamps, for which the American millionaire, Mr Arthur Hurd, originally paid £BOOO. The dies for these stamps were made by a jeweller, and their value is due to the fact that he erred in engraving “ Post Office ” instead of “ Post Paid.” The whole of the Mauritius section of Mr Hurd’s collection to-day realised £33,000. The present London sale totals £65,000. The American portion recently sold in New York realised £47,000.
