ASHBURTON HOSPITAL.

No Reduction in Relief Allocation.

(Special to the “ Star.”) ASHBURTON, June II

The monthly meeting of the Ashburton Hospital Board was held to-day, the chairman, Mr W. G. Gallagher, presiding. It was reported that the receipts since last meeting amounted to £ll6O 4s 2d, including patients’ fees £913 9s 9d. The credit balance was £l2B 4s Bd. The medical superintendent (Mr A. J. Mason) reported that 102 patients were admitted during the month, and that there were sixty-eight patients in the institution at the end of this period. The Malvern Home report showed that sixteen patients were admitted since last meeting, and that there were eight in the home at the end of the month.

The chairman of the Hospital Committee (Mr F. Frampton) reported that the Unemployment Commissioner had replied to the board’s inquiry stating that there would be no reduction in the Ashburon allocations as a consequence of the distribution of food by the board and the provision of woodcutting by the County Council during the stand-down week. He also reported that the amount recovered in outstanding fees during the past two months had been very satisfactory. The Ashburton Borough Council wrote stating that a donation of £25 had been made towards the purchase of meat for relief purposes. A letter was also received from the Tinwald Town Board advising that a donation of £5 had been made for the same purpose. and the Canterbury Frozen Meat Company intimated that it would forgo the usual freezing and storage charges on beef for the relief of distress. , Mr W. G. Gallagher was re-elected chairman for the ensuing year, and Mr W. Bryant was reappointed to represent the board on the Waipiata Sanatorium Committee. Messrs R. Oakly and W. Wilkinson were re-elected to fill vacancies on the Committee Messrs F. Frampton. W. Bryant and Dr J. R. Wills were re-elected to the Relief Committee. It was decided to elect a deputvchairman of the board, and Mr W. Bryant was appointed.
