OUTSPOKEN JUDGE.
Bribery in Public Life Alleged. LONDON, June 2. Sir Langer Owen, a former New South Wales judge, told the AntiBribery League that “ there is a definite need for our league in Australia, although Australia is no worse than elsewhere.” “ Public men,” he said, “ have been charged before Royal Commissions in New South Wales, but. like most Royal Commissions, the results were unsatisfactory. The difficulty of obtaining reasonable proof is great.”
Sir Langer Owen paid a tribute to the support given by women's organisations to the Anti-Bribery League in New South Wales, and added that the league was at present consolidating its position before prosecuting. It hoped to gain sufficient evidence to support definite charges. Miss Ruth Fry, of Sydney, declared that the British could emulate the Australian League in securing feminine support.
