OFFICERS ELECTED.

Canterbury Fire Brigades Association. Per Press Association. WAIMATE, June 11. A civic welcome was accorded to delegates to the nineteenth annual meeting of the Canterbury Provincial Fire Brigades’ Association, held at Waimate. The president, Superintendent G. E. Harper (Sumner) presided over delegates from New Brighton, Christchuron City, Leeston, Ashburton, Sumner, Waimate, Rangiora and Temuka. There were also present:—The vice-presidents, the secretary, Mr J. H. O’Neill (Sumner) and Foreman J. Riach (Waimate), Fireman Leask (Ashburton) and membeis of the executive and the secretary. Deputy Superintendent J. F. Stokes (New Bfighton). The annual report showed that eleven brigades were affiliated. Forty-one teams representing seven brigades, competed at the demonstration at Hanmer and the local brigade was to be heartily congratulated. The balance-sheet showed a credit of £ll 16s 3d against £l6 3s 3d at the commencement of the year. The following remits were passed: That one-man events be omitted with a view to speeding up demonstrations; that officials be appointed from nominations by affiliated brigades (judges to be active members and examiners active or life members of the association or the U.F.8.A.); and that the association defray the secretary’s expenses to future demonstrations.

The election of officers resulted:— President, Foreman J. V. Riach (Waimate) vice-presidents, Secretary- J. H. O’Neill (Sumner) and Lieutenant D. Cain (Temuka); secretary and treasurer. Deputy Superintendent J. F. Stokes (New Brighton); brigades’ representatives. Fireman Leask (Ashburton), Superintendent C. W. Tyler (Rangiora), Foreman W. Whiteley (New Brighton) and Fireman Preedey (Ashburton). The following were elected life members:—Secretary J. F. Stokes and Past President Superintendent Harper.
