COMEDY AND DRAMA.
“Hi Nellie!”, and Arliss in “ Alexander Hamilton.” “ The Lottery Bride ” and “ Bedside ’’ will be shown finall}- to-night at the Theatre Royal. George Arliss gives a splendid performance in “ Alexander Hamilton,” which will head the new double bill at the Theatre Royal to-morrow. “ Hi, Nellie! ” a newspaper story in which the leading role is taken by Paul Muni, will be screened in support. Succeeding triumphs on the screen for George Arliss have left the public with so high an opinion of his capabilities that they have come to expect something outstanding each time his name appears in the -leading role of a film. Each play he has had he has made a success. Each has been of a distinct type, and all have had entirely different settings, but'in all of them the personality of George Arliss shines through the whole production and makes it a delightful entertainment. Arliss ieaches great in his presentation of the persecuted Hamilton, determined to sacrifice his personal honour to the honour of his countr\*. Great care has been taken with the likenesses of the many historical characters in the play, *nd in this department “ Alexander Hamilton ” is excellent. “ Hi, Nelli ! ” is not all comedy. This fast-moving film possesses a well-knit dramatic plot, as well as scores of laughs. In the performances contributed by Muni and his supporting cast, there is a crisp and breezy note which will endear the story to any audience. Box plans at the D.I.C.
