VISIT TO CANADA.
Well-known Swimmer and Aviatrix. With the departure of Miss Honor Ellis for Canada in July, Christchurch will lose one of its best-known lady swimmers and a prominent aviator. Miss Ellis intends leaving Auckland by the Niagara on July 24 for Windsor, Ontario. She expects to be away for two years. Up to 1933 Miss Ellis had been a prominent swimmer in Canterbury, belonging to the United and Christchurch Ladies’ Clubs. She won numerous handicap events and in 1927 was second to Miss Lily Copplestone in the Canterbury women’s 100 yards championship. Miss Ellis’s crowning triumph came in 1932 when she led the field home in the race for the Annette Kellerman Cup at Timaru. Miss Ellis also took a keen interest in flying, gaining her A pilot’s license when a pupil of the Canterbury Aero Club in 1931. Gliding also claimed her attention and she won her gliding license after tuition as a member of the Christchurch Gliding Club.. While in Windsor Miss Ellis intends to continue flying but she is not certain whether she will again take up swimming seriously.
