Gatherings Held in Town and Country. GIFT PARTY FOR BRIDE-ELECT. Miss May Fabian was recently the her approaching marriage, by Mi** Dorothy Down at her homo, Spreydon. Miss Fabian was the recipient of many pretty and useful pieces of linen. Pianoforte solos were played by Misses J. Blake and B. Nairn, and vocal solos were rendered by Mrs It. H. Webster and Miss S. Down. A one act play given by Misses I. Kent. B. Nairn and E. Berry, and a travel talk by Miss Nairn were much enjoyed. Competitions were won by Misses May Fabian and Alma Hueston. . . Stevens, of Riccarton, recently entertained a large number of relatives and friends in the Oddfellows’ Hall, Dickens Street, the occasion being the coming-of-age of their youngest son, Frederick James. The two tiered cake was cut and the usual toasts were honoured. Dancing, games and a euchre tournament were enjoyed. Musical and elocutionary items were given by Miss Lucy Cowan, Miss Ethel Jackson, Miss Kathleen Read, Mr Alan Clarke, Mr Fred Stevens and the Hilo four. Mr W. On Wednesday afternoon the members of the office staff were the guests of Mr J. Liggins, the retiring chairman. at afternoon tea in the board-room of the Waimairi County Council Chambers. Mr Liggins spoke in eulogistic terms of the staff and expressed his thanks for their co-operation during his term of office. Mr G. S. Cowper (county clerk) on behalf of the staff assured Mr Liggins that it had always given the staff pleasure to carry out any requests. and that his courtesy and consideration had been much appreciated. Party at Spring-burn. Mr and Mrs C. G. Jessep. Springburn, were the guests of honour at a welcome home social on Tuesday evening. The time was spent in games and competitions. and. on behalf of those present, Mr S. T. Goldsmith made Mr and Mrs Jessep a presentation. Those present were:—Mr and Mrs C. G. Jessep, Mrs Jessep, sen..
