Wed., May 30—Old Oak, Queen of the Oak. U.F.S. DispensaryThe quarterly meeting of the committee of management will be held in the Foresters’ Hall. Oxford Terrace, next , Thursday. An improvement in the trading account and an increase in prescriptions are recorded. A decrease in the hospital account for the corresponding period of last year is evidenced and a recommendation is to be placed before the meeting for the reduction of levies from July 1. Dominion Council of Friendly Societies. The annual meeting of delegates will be held in the Rechabites’ Chambers, Wellington, on May 29, at 9.30. Brother J. K. Macfle (A.0.F.) will preside, and the statement of accounts and auditor's report will be presented and many important remits will be considered which have a bearing on surplus funds, rate of interest to be earned by the sick and funeral fund, payments to pensioners i by friendly societies, etc. The elec- ! tion and installation of officers will take 1 place at the conclusion of the meeting, | which will be attended by delegates ; representing practically the whole of the friendly societies in the Dominion. U.F.S. Council. The quarterly meeting of the U.F.S. Council will be held in the Trades Hall ' at 7.30 p.m. on Saturday next, Alay 26. ; After the usual quarterly business lias been disposed of. Dr M’Gibbon will at- t tend and place a proposition before the ! meeting whereby he will agree that if 3000 members can be obtained at the ' fee of £1 5s per member per annum he will provide eight free beds in a private hospital and perform all operations for ear, nose and throat complaints. As the address, will be very interesting, all members are invited to be present. X.O.Xt. Canterbury Provincial Council.— I P.C.R. Brother T. Nuttall presided. Motions of sympathy were extended to Brother and Sister Martin in their re- | cent bereavement and to Sister Coton. j who is in ill-health. Reports were received from Brother W. D. Bunt on the i last district meeting. P.S.J. Brother ; Saunders submitted a report on the juvenile movement. A report on the Band of Hope Union was tendered. Social reports were received from Brother H. P. Smith on the Philipson Tent social and New Brighton Terr anniversary. A welcome was extended to Brother Owen (Ark of Refuge Tent) on his elevation to provincial business. Brother Rhind (Richmond Tent) made a suggestion that a hiking party lie organised, this being left to the delegates to refer back to their Tents. It was decided to set up a vigilant committee to deal with the various remits which were passed at tlie recent district conference held in Wellington, the object being to bring into active operation as speedily as possible the new rules. The following committee was selected:—Secretary, Brother W. D. Bunt. P.C.R. Brother Nuttall, P. P.C.R. Brother Smith and P.P.C.R. Brother Good to work in conjunction with D.C.R. Brother Bascand and P.D.C.R. Brother Martin. Ark of Refuge.—Sister A. Oollister, * Chief Ruler, presided, and one new member was initiated. Sister A. Collister and Deputy Ruler Brother G. Brisattend the unveiling of the memorial at enterprise Tent. At the conclusion of business the social hour was spent in amusements. U.A.O.D. Oak of Sydenham.—A.D. Brother J. Betts presided, and DtP. Brother F. L. Herriot was present. A motion of sympathy was passed in the death of the i late Brother C. G. Smith, and one with ' Brother .T. O. M’Kenzie in the death of \ his father. Two applications for Grand j Lodge benefits were forwarded. One funeral claim was passed for pay- I ment. One candidate was initiated, j Visitors present were:—P.G.P. Brother M. O'Donogliue and I.G. Collins presided, and references were made to the ritual
competitions held by the Royal Arch Chapter. Two sisters from the Queen of the Oak Dodge gainhonours, lirst and second place, in fne Arch-Druids’ charge competition, thefr lodge now having 26 points for fh« Bierman Challenge Cup. The Past Arch charge competition will tbe held on June 19. Consideration was given to the formation of the Ivy of Linwood Juvenile Lodge, and it was agreed t.o hokl a special meeting on Tuesday, May 29. The visitors were accorded a vote of welcome, and fraternal greetings were exchanged. After routine business the lodge adjourned to hold the Arch-Druids’ charge competition (open to all members of the Ivy of Linwood) for the Burgess Memorial Challenge Shield. G.V.P. Brother Bigg, p.G.P. Brother Burgess and Secretary Brother Ballan acted as judges. The competition resulted: Brother J. Collins, jun. 1, Brother P. Cotton 2. Pioneer Lodge.—A.D. Brother C. H. Clyde presided. Correspondence was received fro m the Ivy of Linwood Lodge asking all members to attend a meeting a consider the formation of a Juvenile Lodge; from R.A.C. forwarding tickets for the annual ball; and from Dr Robertson stating that he was taking Dr Averill’s place while away, and asking to be placed on the medical list of the lodge. The application was granted. The U.F.S. Dispensary forwarded the quarterly report. The Grand Secretary notified that the panel of auditors had been held over till November, and asked for the names and addresses of memreference to the proposed universal clearance. N.G., presided, and a motion of sympathy was passed to the relatives of the late Brother T. Frisby. A notification was received from Hakatere Lodge I (Ashburton) that members and officers 1 will visit Ridgely Lodge on Saturday, ; June 2. A welcome was extended to a i large number of visitors, and responses I were given by Brother Thackwell (Star jof St Albans). P.G. Brother Thomas (Star of Canterbury, Timaru) and Brother J. Richardson (Templeton Lodge). !At the conclusion of lodge business ! visitors were entertained in competi- : tions in bowls, ping-pong, quoits and ! cards. A.O.F. I Centenary Celebrations.—A circular , letter has been issued by the Canterbury United District Executive, in which an ! lives from each Order in" Christohurdi j to attend the Centenary church parade. I Reserved seats will be placed at the disposal of representatives who attend the service on Sunday afternoon, June 3, at ! o p.m. The procession will leave St | John Ambulance Rooms at 2.30, and, with the Municipal Band in attendance, will proceed to the Cathedral, where a special sermon will be preached by the i Very Rev Dean Julius. A collection will ; be taken up and the proceeds given to : St Martins House of Help. | Centenary Banquet.—The Canterbury j District Executive has approved of the arrangements for the banquet on Thursday, June 7. in (he Winter Garden. P.D.C.R, Brother F. T. Eldridgo, District Trustee, will occupy the chair, and an excellent toast-list and musical programme will he submitted, with Mr G. M.TT..1.0.0.F. Loyal Past Grands’ Lodge No. I. Brother A. Foster presided, and a letter was received from Loyal Leeston Lodge requesting the arrangement of a visit for the purpose of conferring degrees by the Past Grands’ Lodge. The matter was referred to the District officers for permission. The question of appointing judges for the efficiency competitions was finally dealt with. The committee elected to arrange for the visit from the Ashburton lodges reported that arrangements were well advanced, and a large number of visitors will be in attendance. Loyal Sister Pearce.—An invitation to members to visit Loyal Timaru has been accepted to attend a special meeting in September. Arrangements are being made for tbe accommodation of 25 sisters, who will travel by motor bus to Timaru. Loyal Addington.—The installation of officers will take place on June 4. at 6.30, and will be followed by a ladies' evening at S. Washington Lodge (T.0.0.F.) will officially visit on .Tune IS, when the lodge will meet at 6.30. 1.0.G.T. I Lily of Sydenham Temple.—Brother E.
