Work on Leased School Farms. (Special to the “ Star.”) ASHBURTON. May 22. The monthly meeting of the Ashburton High School Board of Governors was held to-day There were present: , Messrs W. T Lill (in the chair), J. Brown, F. Frampton, E. 11. Orr, M. | ( Bruce and Dr G. I. Miller. The head j master (Mr E. A. Cockroft) reported i that Mr M'Gregor’s farm report showed | that skim ploughing for next season s j wheat crop had been completed and final cultivation was being carried out. i The sheep had been dipped. The extension of the shed, applied for in February, was even more necessary flow, as there was not sufficient space available for the storage of fertilisers and lime The Ashburton Agricultural and Pastoral Association wrote inviting pupils of the school to accompany the judges on June 21 and 22 when the Hock ewe competition would be judged. The head master was authorised to make the necessary arrangements for a • party to accompany the judges. It : was agreed that the farm committee should visit all the board’s leased farm land and present a report to the next meeting School Attendances Affected. The ’school attendances have been ; adversely affected by sickness. At the i : Borough School the attendance at the , re-opening to-day was 275 out of a | total roll number of 400, and at Ash- j i burton East 290 attended out of a roll number of 451 It is expected, however, that the attendances will increase 1 from now oil t East School Committee. At the monthly meeting of the Ash* j burton East Schrol Committee, Mr W. i S. Kerr presiding, the Canterbury Education Board wrote explaining the rea- ! sons of the transfer of Mr Hunter to ! the Allen ton School The head master (Mr S. G. Macfarlane) reported that; there were twenty-eight admissions, in eluding twentv-two in the infant room, | making a total roll number of 451. The ; average roll for the quarter had been 449 and the average attendance 41C.
