KAIAPOI UNEMPLOYED.

Appeal Made to. Hospital Board. In response to a request made by a deputation representing the unemployed of Kaiapoi. the North Canterbury Hospital Board to-day decided to urge j the Unemployment Board to make the i same allocation for the Kaiapoi unemployed as is made for the unemploy- ! ed in the city. Mr Morgan Williams said that the , unemployed in Kaiapoi were in a less ! lort’/nate position than those south of ; the Waimakariri. The allocation was j smaller. The men had one stand-down ! week in four, r in which they got no assistance at all. There was no charitable relief available in Kaiapoi. The j unemployed numbered over 100. It was stated by one speaker that the Kaiapoi unemployed received £5 12s fid per month, a figure that was much below’ the Christchurch figure. What the men wanted was some assistance during the stand-down week.
